Pikku Suomi (Little Finland)
Welcome to Pikku Suomi or “Little Finland,” an elegant and romantic getaway on the shores of Lake Meddybemps. Floor to ceiling windows look out on evergreen and birch woods to a beautiful and secluded cove just beyond. This all-season house features a custom-built kitchen by Fine Artist of Perry, Maine and a luxurious open floor plan that rises to a large master bedroom with a king-size “memory foam” bed. Over an acre of land and 200 feet of waterfront provide a wonderful sense of privacy and contemplation. The 6,675 acres of Lake Meddybemps support some of the best fishing of small-mouth bass, perch and salmon in the state of Maine as well as being a popular destination point for ice fishing in winter. When you arrive at water’s edge you will find a private dock for your boating, swimming and doing absolutely nothing needs, so make sure to bring your kayak or canoe. There is also a private boat launch for larger boats just a short walk away. The seacoast of Maine is nearby and you won’t want to miss visiting wonderful towns such as Eastport and Lubec where you can sample our world-famous lobster or go sailing on a schooner to watch for whales. St. Andrews by-the-sea, just across the border in New Brunswick, Canada is another popular destination . Also, just across the border from Lubec is Campobello Island, where you can visit Franklin D. Roosevelt's summer home. Lake Meddybemps borders the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, site of one of the largest birding areas in North America and home to many bald eagles. It is also known for it’s hiking and cross-country ski trails. Just a short drive away is the border town of Calais for shopping, antiquing, movies, and restaurants. So whether you are a birder, fall foliage enthusiast or cross-country skier, wherever you decide to venture, you will love returning to “Little Finland”- truly a Maine vacation paradise.
